Job Description:
PFC seeks a self-motivated and business-minded Markets Assistant to support the Markets Manager in operating PFC’s markets with the ultimate goal of helping PFC’s farmers create viable farm businesses. The Markets Assistant position is full-time and seasonal from April until October. The Markets Assistant will report directly to the Deputy Executive Director.
Marketing:
- Support Markets Manager in marketing existing sales channels including CSA, PFC Farm Store, PFC International Farmers Market, food pantry program and wholesale accounts
- Assist Markets Manager in market research to assess wholesale and retail pricing and identify opportunities for growth
Daily Market Support:
- Assist in preparing for markets, operating markets, and delivering products
- Order fulfillment for wholesale accounts and food pantries
- Deliver produce Tuesdays and Wednesdays, operating PFC’s delivery truck
- Support record keeping for markets including records of sales, invoices, and farmer payments
- Clean and organize Wash-Pack area regularly
- Perform quality checks and inventory on products sold by farmers to PFC
- Provide support to Markets Manager in communication with markets including weekly CSA and wholesale emails
Farmer Mentorship and Education
- Work with Markets Manager to support business and market education for farmers
- Provide technical assistance to farmers including but not limited to post-harvest handling, packing orders, record keeping, and market development
Requirements/ Qualifications:
- Hard working, organized, and self-motivated
- Excellent communicator
- Proficient in Google Drive and Microsoft Suite
- Ability to work well independently, without direct supervision, and as a team
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and physically demanding work
- Experience with marketing and businesses in the agriculture/ food industry preferred
- Valid driver’s license and personal transportation
Term and Hours:
This is a full time, seasonal position. $22-27/hour, commensurate with experience. Position is open until filled.
